I have been at Sterling Lord Literistic since 2014. My clients have been excerpted in the New Yorker, winners and finalists for prizes, and have multiple foreign sales. I was named a Publishers Weekly Star Watch Honoree 2020, featured in the 2020 Writer's Digest Annual Agent Roundup, and in Poets & Writers' "Agents and Editors Recommend."
A former competitive swimmer and lifeguard, I graduated from Vassar College with a concentration in English. I live in Brooklyn with my bike and KitchenAid stand mixer. I also live on Twitter @dani_bukie
I’m Danielle Bukowski, literary agent and foreign rights manager at Sterling Lord Literistic. I’m looking for literary fiction, smart bookclub fiction, upmarket fiction, and select nonfiction. Particularly, I want to hear from writers traditionally overlooked by the publishing industry, as working on books that represent the world is important to me. My favorite novels balance a unique hook and well-paced plot with strong writing and a distinctive voice; are entertaining and thought-provoking; have a strong sense of place; are stylistically bold; speak to our current moment or are set in a historical moment that resonates with our own.
My favorite nonfiction books expand my view of the world; provide an unconventional perspective on a conventional topic; are rigorously reported and researched; weave in personal interest; read like a novel.
If some of the above describes your book, please submit using this form: I’d love to read it.
The writers I represent include: Erin Eileen Almond, Jack Balderrama Morley, Andrew Boryga, Keziah Frost, Nick Fuller Googins, Edgar Gomez, Mark Haber, Joseph Han, Stephanie Jimenez, Nancy Johnson, Professor Tom Mole, Emily O’Neill, Sylvie Perry, Rafe Posey, Katherine Seligman, Chelsea Voulgares, Bryan Washington, and Olivia Wolfgang-Smith.
